What we do today matters most

“Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.” - Buddha

Yesterday is written in permanent ink amongst the previous pages of our life story. Tomorrow is a void space that doesn’t exist yet and might never exist. Today, in the here and now, is when what we choose to do means the most. Many people live with shame, sorrow, and regret for the things of yesterday; however, that energy provides us little value since there is nothing we can do to change the past. What we can do is take the lessons of yesterday and use them to guide us through today. We can use today’s actions to build a beautiful future version of ourselves that we are inspired by and that inspires the world around us.

Embracing the present moment allows us to let go of the burdens of the past and the anxieties of the future. It empowers us to take control of our lives, making conscious choices that reflect our values and aspirations. Each day presents a new opportunity to grow, learn, and make positive changes. By focusing on what we can do today, we set the foundation for a brighter and more fulfilling tomorrow. Let's commit to making each day count, for it is in these daily actions that we shape our destiny and leave a lasting impact on the world.

Here are three practical ways to focus on growth:

1. Positive Affirmations: Highlight areas in your life where growth has occurred. Focus on one, two, or three aspects of your growth that you are most proud of. By acknowledging and celebrating these achievements, you reinforce a positive mindset and build the confidence to continue growing.

2. Writing Down Goals: Create a list of three things you’d like to achieve over the next 30 to 45 days. Ideally, these will be things aligned with goals that you’ve been able to accomplish recently. Identify how you can continue to build upon your prior accomplishments. Reflect on the things that supplemented your prior success, and also target what may have stunted your progress. This step is important because nobody knows you better than you.

While some mindset coaches advocate for a “go big or go home” strategy, I believe starting small can be more beneficial. This approach allows us to establish the confidence needed to believe in our ability to succeed. Small victories provide the momentum that eventually leads to major achievements. It gives us faith in the process. Let’s start by getting some wins under our belts… some wind in our sails. Soon enough, we will be striding towards major goals and changes.

“small deeds done are better than great deeds planned”

3. Gratitude Practice: Each morning, I want you to practice writing down three things you are grateful for. Carry this list with you and review it periodically throughout the day. Ideally, you’ll review the list twice throughout the day and once more immediately before bed. This practice attracts more abundance into your life through gratitude. The universe does not give us more of what we want if we cannot appreciate what we have already been blessed with.

By incorporating these practices into our daily routine, we can focus on growth and make each day a step towards a more fulfilling and successful future all while remaining present in the current moment.
